Purpose

verbalExpress is a vocabulary builder software for SAT, TOEFL, GRE, GMAT and general vocabulary. You may use a list of 5000 words packed in the zip file, any downloadable word list from internet (e.g. http://www.freevocabulary.com/) or edit your own word list.

Design

verbalExpress uses divide-and-conquer strategy to build your vocabulary. You first load a selected word list, a series of multi-choice questions is then generated. After a test, the known words are filtered out, and end up with an untested word list and an unknown word list. You may stop at any point and save the lists. You load the untested word list next time to continue the work. The unknown word list can be printed out for memorizing.

verbalExpress points out the correct answer as soon as you select confirm button or pass button. This will give you the exact moment to remember the word.

Usage

A test can be carried out in normal (alphabetical) or random order. Use the normal order for filtering purpose, and use random order for the final test to see how good you master the word list, e.g. 25, 50 or 100 words test.

For the filtering purpose, any word is unknown, pass button should be used to avoid a word not hundred-precent-sure filtered out and save time without wild guess. On the final test, pass button should not be used so that you get real result on your vocabulary power.

verbalExpress provide the option of using mouse or keyboard to select the answer. Using keyboard is relatively easy and fast way (turn on Alt key with the on-screen keyboard function in winXP). Using mouse is a standard method in computer-based test.

Registration

Send e-mail: e-mail for registration info. Registered user will receive a password for verbalExpress and more word lists for various standardized tests mentioned above.

When not registered, verbalExpress is fully functional, however, with a limitation on the number of testing words.
