Multimedia Resources

Here are links to online multimedia resources available to the public as well as through the UNL Libraries collection of databases purchased specifically for the use of UNL students, faculty, and staff. Images, audio and video can be found in a multitude of places. Many of our databases have PDFs of articles that will include images and charts. General searches can be performed in popular search engines (AltaVista and Google are our favorites - they have tabs that make it easy to choose to search for multimedia.)For tips on searching or if you are having trouble finding specific topics please do not hesitate to contact us.   • The Archive of Early American Imagesfree use graphic
    Primary resource database of images from the colonial Americas 1492-1825.

    Digital art collections from several sources. Includes Asian, Native American and Modern Art. Images are available for architecture, painting, photography, sculpture, decorative arts and design, as well as archeological and anthropological objects. Must download ARTstor's free viewer to use.
  • eLibraryunl only graphic
    Searchable online collection of books, magazine articles, radio and television scripts, maps and pictures. Also has some audio and video but it is not downloadable.
  • Flickrfree use graphic
    Flickr is a photo-sharing site that allows users to assign 'tags' to photos- making them searchable by keyword. Most images are downloadable.
  • PhotoMusefree use graphic
    Currently under development but many photographs are accessible. From a collaboration between the George Eastman House and International Center of Photography Alliance. When complete this site will provide in-depth access to the extensive photography resources of both institutions.
  • Historic Documents Series Onlineunl only graphic
    The New York Times (1851-2001), The Wall Street Journal (1889-1987), The Washington Post (1877-1988), The Christian Science Monitor (1908-1991), Los Angeles Times (1881-1984) and Chicago Tribune (1849-1984.) Provides full text and full image articles with digital reproductions of every page, every article and every issue in PDF format. In addition to news stories, includes editorials, letters to the editor, obituaries, birth and marriage announcements, photos, and advertisements.
  • New York Public Library Digital Gallery free use graphic
    NYPL Digital Gallery provides access to over 275,000 images digitized from primary sources and printed rarities in the collections of The New York Public Library.
  • Sanborn Mapsunl only graphic
    Contains historical maps of Nebraska towns, from 1867-1970. PDF files.
  • U.S. Congressional Serial Setunl only graphic
    All reports, documents and journals of the House and Senate. When completed, it will cover up to 1980. Includes, tables, images and maps.

    Free for personal, educational or non-broadcast use. Instrumental MP3 files indexed by CD volume. It was originally published in, "feel" (mysterious, romantic, etc.), and style, and as well as keyword searchable. Downloadable.
  • FindSoundsfree use graphic
    Search engine dedicated to audio clips. Able to limit searches by file size, rate and file format.
  • History Channelfree use graphic
    Includes short clips of famous speeches.
  • Say It Plainfree use graphic
    From American Radio Works. Great African American Speeches. From Booker T. Washington to present day.

    Audio, video, and images including maps. Digitized collections from the Library of Congress and other institutions focused on American history and culture.
  • BBC Open News Archivefree use graphic
    Free access to some of the top news stories of the past 50 years. Downloadable. You are encouraged to view them and use them creatively.
  • DOE Nevada Historical Nuclear Weapons Test Filmsfree use graphic
    Collection of declassified government films documenting the early stages of nuclear weapons testing. Short clips are downloadable. Full tapes are available for a fee.
  • Google Videofree use graphic
    Beta version. Video archive of mainly TV programs. Google aims to "organize the world's information". Focus is on news and documenteries.
  • Internet Achivefree use graphic
    Includes collections of classic public domain feature films, shorts and cartoons. Downloadable. The Internet Archive is also building a digital library of internet sites on a wide variety of topics. Their motto is "universal access to human knowledge".
  • The Livingroom Candidatefree use graphic
    From the Museum of the Moving Image. Presidential campaign commercials from 1952-2004. Searchable by year and theme.
  • NASA Langley Research Center Multimedia Repositoryfree use graphic
    Images and historical film documenting NASA research . Downloadable.
  • AOL Videofree use graphic
    Audio, Video search engine provided by AOL.
  • Television News Archiveunl only graphic
    Updated daily. Provides a searchable archive of abstracts of news broadcasts from 1968 to present (ABC, CBS, NBC), 1995 to present (CNN), and selected content from PBS and FOX News. Digitized news broadcasts and special news-related programming from CNN, such as political campaigns, news conferences, and presidential speeches, are viewable with the RealOne media player. They cannot be downloaded. Other broadcasts are available by video tape to rent for a fee.
