Additional courses for the Endorsement in Preschool Disabilities (B-K) or ECSE (B-grade 3) include: language development, early childhood education, multicultural and / or literacy education. Additional courses for the Masters Degree include:  statistics, research design, and supportive areas of interest. * Persons without a Teaching Certificate will have additional requirements including:  40 hours of general education and professional education content that can be completed during the undergraduate (transferred) or graduate program, and 3 credits of student teaching.

NCATE Standards

The competency of the ECSE teacher will be assessed across 10 standards established by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).  Course projects or exams along with Practicum Checklist competencies will be used to judge the students’ progress toward competency for each standard.  A detailed final analysis of the teacher-candidate’s competency will be described following the practicum and student-teaching experience.
