EMF: Studies in Early Modern France
publishes scholarly articles that focus on an announced theme.
For a complete list of EMF themes, contributors, and
essays, see Tables of Contents.
Submissions, prepared according to the MLA
Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing, should be
sent to either the co-editors (see contact
information) or the guest editor. Each article submitted is
usually read by two reviewers.
Because the simultaneous submission of an article
to more than one refereed journal can result in duplication of
the task of reviewing manuscripts, it is EMF's policy
not to review manuscripts that are under consideration by other
journals.

EMF Critiques publishes manuscripts
of scholarly interest to those concerned with the study of the
early modern period in France. Manuscripts may be in either English
or French. For a complete list of Critiques and excerpts
from recent titles, see Tables
of Contents.
EMF Critiques does not accept unsolicited
manuscripts. Authors wishing to have their manuscript considered
should first send a prospectus, table of contents, and current
curriculum vitae to Anne L. Birberick or Russell J. Ganim (see
contact information).
Because the simultaneous submission of a manuscript
to more than one press can result in duplication of the demanding
task of reviewing, it is EMF's policy not to accept manuscripts
that are under consideration by other presses.

Text Preparation Guidelines for Authors
Follow the guidelines in the Chicago Manual
of Style, 15th edition, Part 2. In addition, please
note the following.
Bibliography/List of Works Cited or
Consulted
If possible, submit one list of works cited
or consulted (for articles or book contributions) or one bibliography
(for book-length manuscripts), alphabetized by author. Where an
author has more than one work, list in alpha order by title.
For titles in a language other than English,
use the American English spelling for the city of publication.
When the publisher is a university press, e.g.,
Syracuse University Press, abbreviate as Syracuse UP.
Parenthetical References and Notes
All references to books and articles must appear
in minimal form between parentheses within the text. If the author
is mentioned by name immediately before open parentheses and has
only one work in the bibliography or list of works cited, enter
only the page numbers between parentheses. If the author’s
identity is not clear from context, include the last name immediately
after the open parenthesis. If several works by the same author
appear in the bibliography/list of works cited or consulted and
the title referred to is not clearly identified before the parenthesis,
a short title must appear within the parenthesis, immediately
after the author’s name, if it must be included. A comma
will appear between the author’s name and the title of the
publication cited.
Endnotes only should be used only for additional
commentary; references to works in the additional commentary will
be in parenthetical reference form.
Complete publication data are given only in
the bibliography or list of works cited or consulted.
Varia
Double hyphens should be replaced by 1/m dashes
without preceding or following spaces.
