Lincoln Friends of Foreign Students Student Workteam Organization-Constitution
PREAMBLE
We, the international
and American students of the Lincoln Friends of Foreign Students Student
Workteam Organization, in compliance with Article IV, sec. lA of ASUN constitution,
do hereby establish this constitution for administration of this organization.
In doing so, we
recognize that this
written law is the most effective definition, and protection for the organization.
ARTICLE I: NAME
The name of this organization shall be known as the "Lincoln Friends of Foreign Students Student Workteam Organization" , hereafter referred to as the LFFS SWO.ARTICLE II: PURPOSE
- To assist the Lincoln Friends of Foreign Students community organization in its efforts in programming to promote friendships between community people and the international students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This includes but is not limited to promoting new membership, matching students and community people, conducting orientations, mailing information to both students and community people, having functions throughout the year, promoting special projects, and providing a newsletter.
- To act as a channel for international students to voice their concerns in relation to the community organization.
- To conduct activities outside the community organization, for the benefit of the student workteam and other international students.
- To promote the interaction of international students and American students and adults.
ARTICLE III:
MEMBERSHIP
ARTICLE IV: OFFICERS
- 1. Eligibility:
- This organization does not discriminate in the selection of members or appointments when discrimination is defined as denying individuals' membership or appointment on theb asis of a person's age, race, national origin, color, gender, sexual orientation, creed, handicap or place of residence.
- LFFS Student Organization Workteam shall consist of at least five currently enrolled student members. Non-students will be allowed to participate in any student organization activity but will not be a voting member, or an elected or appointed officer of said organiation. A non-student is someone who is not currently enrolled at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the Fall or Spring semester.
- 2. Methods for selecting members: Interested members shall complete an application and will be voted on by current members of the LFFS SWO.
- Types of Members: All members shall be considered active and will actively assume one or more of the committee responsibilities as determined by the LFFS SWO.
- Methods of Revoking Membership. Membership will be revoked when member does not attend 3 meetings in a row (unless members consider the absence excusable and vote accordingly) or does not perform his/her job responsibilities according to membership vote.
The governing branch of LFFS SWO shall be the elected officers. A quorum being present, the officers will initiate and consider appointments, form committees, and make plans that are in the best interest of Lincoln Friends of Foreign Students and LFFS SWO.
V. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

- Treasurer
- 2. Powers and Duties of Officers:
- President: Shall conduct meetings and be in charge of overall conducting of business of LFFS SWO.
- Vice-President: Shall assist the president and assume charge in his/her absence.
- Secretary: Shall be in charge of all correspondence among members of the LFFS SWO and keep membership lists up to date.
- Treasurer: Shall be in charge of all moneys of LFFS SWO.
- 3. Election:
- Qualification of Officers: Shall be active members of LFFS SWO, elected by membership.
- Officers shall serve a term of one year, and can run for a consecutive term at the end of the year.
- 4. Procedure to fill vacancies: In the event of a vacancy, the President may recommend a replacement candidate to fill that vacancy. Upon approval by the remaining officers, the candidate shall assume the duties of that position and serve for the remainder of the original term.
- 5. Impeachment Proceedings: In the event of a violation of rules or policies, the president shall call a meeting, and the complaint will be investigated. The officers will make a recommendation to be voted up by the remainder of the LFFS SWO.

VII. Rules of Procedure
- All advisors must be Academic/Administrative or Managerial Professional faculty staff of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- Method of Selection: Advisors shall be selected by the Lincoln Friends of Foreign students board of directors.
- Length of term: 3 years, may be re-nominated.
VIII. Finance
- Individuals who have more than 3 consecutive absences from meetings will be evaluated. LFFS SWO will vote to decide whether to terminate that individual's membership.
- Meetings will be held once a month, the weekend following the LFFS Board meetings except in the summer when special meetings will be called when necessary.
IX. Amendments
- Dues, membership fees: There shall be no dues or membership fees.
- Organizational monies will be handled by the Student Activities Financial Services, regardless of source.
Must be ASUN approved.X. Effective Date of Constitution:
LFFS SWO shall be considered a campus organization on April 29, 1998XI. Classification of Organization
LFFS SWO shall be classified as an International/Community Service Organization.
