Awards A new research group focused on the local and national problem
of staphylococcus infections has been formed at the University
of Nebraska, and includes the RBC's Dr. Greg Somerville. Dr. Han Asard was recognized in Scarlet as co-editor of a
recently published work updating the roles and uses of Vitamin
C in humans and plants. Dr. Banerjee received the highest distinction awarded to professors
by the University of Nebraska. Dr. Steven Ragsdale received a University-wide award for Outstanding
Research and Creativity Activity (ORCA). The methanogenesis research of Dr. Stephen Ragsdale, Dr. Jess
Miner, and Dr. James Takacs was recently highlighted in the
Research Nebraska magazine. Biochemist Vadim Gladyshev led a team that identified seven
new selenium-containing proteins in humans and mice. Their
work was recently published in Science and featured in Scarlet. NIH awards a $10 million grant to establish the Redox Biology
