Membership Information












WAPOR is a professional society of more than 450 individuals from academic and business professions in over 50 countries who share information in the field of public opinion research through conferences, publications, and personal contact. As a WAPOR member, you are given the opportunity to have your organization or agency listed in the AAPOR/ WAPOR Blue Book, a guide to public opinion research resources worldwide published every year.

The International Journal of Public Opinion Research, published four times a year by Oxford University Press, is free with WAPOR membership. WAPOR also publishes a newsletter four times a year and a directory every other year.

In even-numbered years, our annual conference is held with AAPOR in North America. The 2006 WAPOR/AAPOR conference was held in Montreal, Canada and the 2008 conference will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana in May of 2008. In odd-numbered years, our annual conference is held with ESOMAR in Europe. The 2005 WAPOR/ESOMAR conference was held in Cannes, France and the upcoming WAPOR/ESOMAR conference will be held in Berlin, Germany, September 19-21, 2007. There are five types of membership:

Regular membership is open to all persons who subscribe to the purposes of the Association and are, or have been, directly associated with the conduct, use, or teaching of scientific opinion and attitude research.

Graduate student membership is available at a lower rate with certification of current enrollment.

Retired membership, including receiving the journal, is available after 10 years of regular membership.

Retired membership/no journal is available at a lower rate for retired professionals who wish to maintain contact with WAPOR without receiving the journal.

Lifetime membership is available to any member for a one-time fee.

Membership is based on the calendar year (January 1 through December 31). We have a 3-tier membership fee structure based on nation of residence. The WAPOR Council voted unanimously in October 2004 to adopt this structure. Members residing in Tier A nations are assessed 100 percent of the membership fees, members in Tier B nations are assessed 75 percent of the membership fees and members in Tier C nations are assessed 50 percent of the membership fees.

Other than the differences in membership fees, members in all tiers maintain identical rights and obligations. Please encourage your colleagues in other nations to become WAPOR members. Our ability to meet the global challenges of polling and reporting on public opinion will be greatly enhanced if we expand our membership throughout the world.

The membership application may be copied and distributed to your colleagues. The completed application may be returned by fax if you are paying by credit card. If paying by check, please include payment with the completed application.
