Visualizing Uncertainty

by Dan Wurdinger, MA student

Abstract: An interactive demonstration that explores a dataset containing certain margins of error. The analysis of the allocation of this error and its impact on the dataset reveals information vital to truly understanding the nature of the data. Often this understanding is not possible with choropleth maps due to error either being briefly mentioned or overlooked entirely. The techniques displayed in this demonstration provide a simple and visual means of understanding data and selecting methods to classify it.
