Background Information

Dr. Rugg joined the University of Nebraska's geography staff in 1964 and retired in 1989. He was awarded a faculty Fullbright grant for research in Austria in 1967-68, and received other grants for East European research in 1974 and 1980. Dr. Rugg participated in the Semester at Sea program (teaching on a ship around the world) in 1985 and 1989. From 1957 - 1963, Dr. Rugg was a Foreign Service Officer in Bonn, Germany, and a Geographic Attache. He has also authored dealing with his specializations. Following is a list of some of his works: Spatial Foundations of Urbanism (1972 and 1979), and Eastern Europe (1985). In 1988, he was awarded Outstanding Teacher at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Dr. Rugg has also authored several articles, one of which is; "Communist Legacy in Albania" in the Geographic Review (1994). Dr. Rugg passed away on February 6, 2000.
