American Avocet

American Avocet (Recurvirostra americana) has a distinctive, slender, upturned bill which it sweeps from side to side when feeding. It prefers still waters, prairie potholes, and alkaline lakes and is a regular nester in western Nebraska. The male and female take turns incubating eggs. [image
