The Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) is an abundant resident on fresh and salt water marshes and lakes. The male and female form strong pair bonds. The females incubate the eggs while the male stands guard. Both sexes help raise the young. Before 1900, the Canada Goose nested along the Missouri River. It was extirpated from this area, but has since been successfully reintroduced to the state.
