Viceroy Butterfly

The Viceroy Butterfly (Limenitis archippus) adults are avoided by birds because they resemble the poisonous Monarch Butterfly. The caterpillars' resemblance to bird droppings helps to protect them from being eaten also. They feed exclusively on willows and poplars and are found in the wet areas where these trees grow.
