What is Rush?
Rush is a two week process that is meant to provide an introduction to the people, organization, and culture of the Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi. It is usually comprised of a series of social and professional events designed to help prospective members ("Rushes") determine whether or not our fraternity is the right fit for them. Each event gives Rushes opportunities to meet with and ask Brothers any questions you may have. Professional rush events require business professional dress. At the end of the Rush process, a select group of Rushes will be offered a Bid to join that semester's Pledge Class.
Do I have to be a Business Major?
No, all majors are welcome. Business is used in almost all career fields and professional development can help in achieving success regardless of your major.
What is Pledging?
The pledge program is a 8 to 12 week process in which the pledges professional, social and leadership skills are tested. There are formal requirements that need to be completed as a pledge and those requirements will be disclosed to those that receive a bid, along with a semester calendar of events. Time management, professionalism, networking, resume, cover letters, interviewing skills are amongst the many lessons taught in the pledge program. In addition to the professional experiences, pledging is unique bonding opportunity and there are many social events throughout the pledge process as well.
What kind of commitment is pledging?
The pledge process can take a significant amount of time. You should expect 1-2 meetings a week minimum and weekly quizes. Many brothers compare pledging to taking an additional three-credit class. The pledge process is your opportunity to show us you are serious about AKPSI
If I pledge, will I be hazed or forced to drink alcohol?
Absolutely not. Our organization is committed to creating a pledge process that is beneficial to your social and professional growth. You will not be forced to do anything that you do not wish to do.
How much are dues?
Dues vary from semester to semester - pledge check with the Rush coordinator on the specific finnancial obligations. We strive to keep our financial requirements as low as possible but our funds allow us to provide the terrific opportunities we do. These dues are significantly lower than those of social fraternities and sororities.
