amnesty international is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. amnesty works to promote and protect all human rights as enumerated in the universal declaration of human rights.

amnesty's main objectives are:

amnesty international is independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion. it does not support or oppose any government or political system, nor does it support or oppose the views of the victims whose rights it seeks to protect. it is concerned solely with the impartial protection of human rights.

on campus, the amnesty group meets weekly to write urgent actions and plan future activities. the group regularly sponsors speakers and events consistent with its mission to educate and engage the university community in open discussion about urgent human rights issues. our activities are often in conjunction with other university and community organizations.
