AOII collegiate membership is much more than attending meetings, going to social events and wearing Greek letters. It is a feeling of belonging to a group of women who accept you for who you are and encourage you to develop into who you want to become. In AOII, you can find a place where you feel at home. You can count on your sisters in good times and in bad, strive for your goals as a chapter, and draw sisters together in one, strong bond. Legacies
Alpha Omicron Pi strongly encourages the pledging of qualified legacies whenever possible. Collegiate chapters are obligated to give serious consideration to each verified legacy out of courtesy to the AOII member to whom she is related. A collegiate chapter may decline membership to a legacy if she does not meet the membership selection criteria set by the chapter.
A legacy is defined as a sister, daughter, or granddaughter; a step-sister, step-daughter, or step-granddaughter; or an adopted sister, daughter, or granddaughter of an initiated member of Alpha Omicron Pi (alive or deceased).
Only collegiate chapter members have the responsibility and privilege of membership selection. The role of alumnae is to provide information to collegiate chapters for all potential new members to ensure they are given consideration for membership.

Because AOII has become a part of your daughter’s life, we would like to introduce you to our Fraternity and to the role it will play in guiding your daughter through her college years. In AOII she will find lifelong friends, support to excel in her studies, opportunities for leadership development and community service; and she will make some of the most incredible memories of her life.
The rich traditions of Alpha Omicron Pi will become a part of your daughter’s everyday life. Her days in AOII will be full of big/little sister activities, sisterhood retreats, fund raisers, community service, social activities, and so much more. She will participate in the Rituals of AOII, which are simple and beautiful ceremonies based on love for each other and the world.
A tradition you will not find in AOII is hazing. AOII has absolutely no tolerance for hazing in any way, shape, or form. Alcohol abuse and misuse is one of the biggest issues facing collegians today. AOII is committed to working with our collegians to educate them on the effects of alcohol comsumption and to increase their awareness. AOII has also developed an award-winning, educational program on suicide awareness and prevention, as well as other important issues facing college women today.
As a new member, your daughter will wear a new member pin in the shape of a sheaf of wheat, symbolizing individuals bound together by common bonds of friendship. Once initiated she will receive her membership badge formed of the Greek letters of AOII superimposed on top of each other. The badge is designed to represent simplicity and singleness of heart.
The Greek Advantage
You will find that becoming a member of a sorority will have a profound effect on your daughter’s life. According to the Research Initiative conducted by The Center for Advanced Social Research at the University of Missouri-Columbia, membership in a fraternity or sorority has several positive impacts. Fraternity or sorority membership increased student retention approximately 28% more than non-Greek students. Greek alumni also tend to be more successful financially than other graduates. After factoring out the effects of parents’ education level, gender and year of graduation, the Center found fraternity or sorority membership correlated positively with higher income. The study also found that Greeks are more involved in campus and community activities both as students and as graduates.
Chapter Programing
Another benefit of membership in AOII is that your daughter will participate in outstanding chapter programming. Many practical and necessary educational lessons are never taught in the classroom. Through our educational programs, your daughter will learn many important “life-skills” including time management, alcohol awareness, healthy living, etiquette, suicide awareness and safety. The lessons your daughter will learn will be varied and tailored to your daughter’s chapter.
Membership in AOII is for Life
Beyond the lifelong friendships made in college, there are many advantages our members enjoy throughout their lives. AOII alumnae, wherever they live, are welcome to participate in an alumnae chapter. Whether your daughter chooses to live in her hometown or move to an entirely new city, she will find a network of AOII friends who are always there to support her.
Her affiliation with AOII can also help her in her future career. Whether it is networking with other sisters in the professional world or using communication and leadership skills learned while in their chapter, many members attribute their career success, in some part, to AOII.
Becoming Involved in Your Daughter’s Greek Life!!
AOII parents provide enormous help to collegiate chapters for which we are very grateful. You may find that you enjoy working with your daughter’s chapter and remaining active in her life at college. We host special parents’ days where you will be invited to meet your daughter’s AOII sisters and learn more about her chapter.
We have established a Parents’ Clubs that is very involved in several aspects of sorority life from philanthropic events to campus activities. Parents may also become involved in a chapter’s corporation board that oversees chapter property, furnishings, equipment, and other financial matters.
Your daughter has just made one of the most important decisions of her life. She has chosen to become a member of Alpha Omicron Pi!
In AOII, there are many ways to stay involved throughout your lifetime. From joining or starting a local alumnae chapter, to volunteer positions, to our alumna initiate program, we encourage and welcome your participation. Alumnae activities include social events, support of local collegiate chapters, and service related endeavors. Just a sample of some of the events held by AOII alumnae chapter are a theatre party, Phantom Picnic or Tea, pottery painting party, and many philanthropic events benefitting local philanthropies or the Arthritis Foundation.
Alumnae Chapter
Alumnae chapters are composed of AOIIs from collegiate chapters across the continent, of various ages, interests and professions. What we share in AOII brings and holds us together. And together, we work for our community, care for one another, pursue common interests, learn from one another, and have fun!
There are so many rewards to alumnae chapter membership! As a chapter member, you have the opportunity to make new friends, be involved in philanthropic and other worthwhile activities, “network” with other AOII’s, discover new interests, support the Fraternity, and have fun! 8. Get a real value when you join an alumnae chapter - Alumnae dues are set locally and are generally under $50 annually. Typically, alumnae chapters meet once a month.
7. Choose to be involved - There are many opportunities open to you as an active alumna. If it interests you, perhaps you would like to take a role in an alumnae chapter; serve the Fraternity in an international volunteer capacity; or assist a local collegiate chapter. The choice is yours.

The members of the chapter span diverse ages, locations, collegiate chapters, professions, and interests, yet all have the same bond in Alpha Omicron Pi.
