Alpha Phi hosts two philanthropies, Alpha Phi Open and Alpha Phi-esta, in addition to supporting other Greek philanthropic events.

Our fall philanthropy, the Alpha Phi Open, is our chapter's very own golf tournament held at a local course. Alpha Phi members invite parents, friends and alumnae to form more than 60 foursomes for a round of golf.

In exchange for a donation to our national philanthropy, the Alpha Phi Foundation, players receive t-shirts, lunch and outstanding Alpha Phi caddies. Following each round, players and caddies gather for a bite to eat and the announcement of winners.

The Alpha Phi Open is an extremely popular and successful philanthropy. It offers an opportunity for the collegiate members to spend time with friends and family, all the while working toward serving the Alpha Phi Foundation and its support of cardiac care.

In early spring Alpha Phi hosts a food philanthropy—Alpha Phi-esta. Chapter members serve tacos, complete with all of the fixings. Tickets are sold advance to members of other sororities and fraternities, students at UNL, families and friends.

Held at our chapter house on a Thursday evening, guests eat tacos, listen to live music by local bands and mingle in our backyard. The event is always a huge success, with over 700 people in attendance and raising around $3,000 to send to the Alpha Phi Foundation.

We enjoy and appreciate all of the support we receive from other Greek chapters on the UNL campus with each of our philanthropy events. As a house we feel it is important to support other chapters and their philanthropies, and enjoy the camaraderie at each event. The following is a list of other chapters' philanthropy events.

For more than 50 years the Alpha Phi Foundation has been in constant support of the fight against heart disease—the number one killer of women. Serving as Alpha Phi’s official philanthropy, the foundation supports cardiac care, heart research and women’s lifestyle research. Since its creation in 1957, it has donated more than $7 million to cardiac care projects in communities around the world.

In 2004, the Alpha Phi Foundation introduced the Alpha Phi Red Dress Pin. This pin is worn to support women and heart disease. The Nu Chapter at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has always been supportive of the Alpha Phi Foundation and its commitment to cardiac care. We now often wear our Red Dress Pins with our badges.
