At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, recruitment is the term used to describe the process of gaining membership into a fraternity or sorority. It is a mutual selection process where a student has the opportunity to meet with chapter members, ask a variety of questions, and tour living units.
Any female student admitted to Nebraska as a first time student is eligible to participate in sorority recruitment. Because of the emphasis on scholarship, many chapters have academic criteria for membership that exceeds the university admission requirement.
Fall Formal Recruitment is the process used by sororities to obtain new members. As a prospective member you will have an opportunity to get acquainted with members of different chapters on campus and ask questions about each sorority and what it has to offer you. Just as sororities are looking for the right women to join their chapters, you should be looking for a chapter that fits you. With fourteen chapters at Nebraska, you will be able to find a group of women with whom you identify.
Formal Recruitment is a four-day process in the fall. It usually takes place the week prior to the first day of classes. You are required to participate in all scheduled events.
