Designing For Tomorrow . . .

Graphic Design

The Graphic Design program prepares students to enter the dynamic arena of digital communication design, leading to an expanding array of professions, such as art and design director, web content developer, and corporate communications manager. Students learn to visually communicate effectively, while developing personal aesthetic and design values; to develop a visual language utilizing typography, traditional and digital imagery; and to create communications in various media formats such as books, posters, packages, exhibitions, interactive multimedia, motion and sequential film, and web-delivered content.

The curriculum includes an internship program, which places advanced students, in local design studios and agencies for real life career experience. Students enrolled in the Graphic Design program complete their class work with a client-sponsored graphic design project. Such projects allow students the opportunity to visit client locations, conduct professional visual communications and identity surveys, and present their unique graphic design concepts at end-of-term presentations. Courses grounded in theory and practice help students to acquire a thorough intellectual understanding of visual messages and the visual design training necessary to establish their professional career goals.

Our American Institute of Graphic Arts Students in Design group conducts professional seminars and promotes interaction with national professional graphic design communities. Membership in this group affords students affiliation with the national AIGA, giving them many benefits - such as entry into local and national student design competitions, scholarships, student and professional conferences and seminars, and exposure to the broader spectrum of design practice.
