Visual Literacy

The Visual Literacy program is an exciting interdisciplinary, collaborative foundation program for all first year students in Art, Architecture, Interior Design, Textiles, and Journalism. Visual Literacy courses are taught and administered by faculty from four colleges: Architecture, Hixson-Lied Fine and Performing Arts, Journalism, and Education and Human Sciences. This program was initially funded by the Association of American Colleges and Universities in the Greater Expectations Consortium on Quality Education. It is a designated Program of Excellence supported by the Office of the Chancellor, and it has gained national recognition for innovation and collaboration. The program includes instruction in drawing, design, color, and media. All students majoring in studio art take two semesters of Visual Literacy courses in their first year of study.
