ASA Meeting Minutes ::

Minutes of the meeting of September 9th 2005.
The meeting was called to order by Lynda Jeutang at 7:12 p.m.

  1. Members presented their selves at the beginning of the meeting.
  2. The members of the executive board gave a summary of what they did in the summer till the present.

a)      The president: talked mostly about the hurricane in the Gulf Coast and the different contacts she made concerning this event
b)      The vice president: talked about the Big Red welcome, and how it was a success as a whole and for ASA in particular. He mentioned the t-shirts that were given away and said that there were approximately 28-30 shirts left.
c)      The secretary: talked about the BBQ that was held on Saturday the 3rd of September 2005. It was a success although it did not start on time (it started about 2hours later.)
d)      Public relations: talked mostly about the ASA website that they are trying to run this year but will need the participation of the members as a whole. PR will need members to please give them pictures of any past events the ASA held so that is could be put up on the website. They plan to have it up and running possibly by the end of the week of the 13th. 
3.      Up Coming events:
a)      FESTAC: A decision was made that FESTAC will be held in the City Union on April 1st.
b)      Hurricane Katrina fundraise: this Subject was brought up in the meeting. Some ideas were brought up of things we as ASA could do. For instance, cooking, setting up a booth, sell some African sacks, join other groups/associations and fundraise together and all the proceeds goes to a trusted NGO, church or Red Cross.
·        A conclusion was finally drawn by voting with the majority wanting to cook and sell in the City Union.
·        People signed up to cook and to serve during this event.
c)      Lead Center shows: One of our sponsor’s Dr. Wills is trying to get the association tickets to about 2 shows. At the meeting, the Lead center event calendar was passed put in order to select shows we are interested in attending.
d)      Afro Blue: Philippe the vice president is in charge of this organization. Although there is not a fixed date for this event, it would be in the month of November before Thanksgiving break.
e)      Famine in Niger: some brainstorms of thoughts of what could be done to help.
·        Probably the money made from Afro Blue could be donated to a trusted NGO.
·        A week of awareness and fundraising.
      4) Goals of ASA: Budget, Involvement, Benefits, Activities. These different subjects will be addressed each meeting session. The second meeting would be addressing the topic of Budget.
