Founded in 1879, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln band program has grown from a single small ROTC band to encompass seven ensembles that perform for a combined audience of well over one million people annually.

The School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln enthusiastically invites all students, regardless of academic major, to participate in one or more of our bands.  Additional information about each of our band ensembles is available under the ensemble link in the index to the left.  Auditions for the fall concert and jazz ensembles are scheduled for the first week of classes in August. We encourage you to explore the rich tradition of our band program.

Current Events

Auditions for the Big Red Express pep band that plays for volleyball and basketball (men's and women's) are scheduled for August 26th, August 28th and August 29th. Sign up for an appointment on the bulletin board outside room 132 Westbrook Music Building.

Auditions for the concert ensembles (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Orchestra) are scheduled for August 25th through August 27th.

Jazz Ensemble auditions are August 26th. Anyone not able to audition on August 26th may play for Dr. Haar on August 27th from 4:30 p.m. to 6:35 p.m. in room 9 Westbrook Music Building. Sign up for a time on the bulletin board outside 132 Westbrook Music Building.
