Imagine experiencing a spectacle with the drama of opera, the power of a rock concert, the grace of ballet, the color of a laser light show and the athleticism of an Olympic event. Now imagine seeing, hearing and feeling this phenomenon right here in Nebraska at Memorial Stadium on the campus of UNL. Each summer the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music brings this to you with The CORNHUSKER SUMMER MUSIC GAMES Drum and Bugle Corps competition.

Every year hundreds of the most talented young musicians and dancers in the country embark on a journey across the nation giving these awe-inspiring performances. Under the auspices of Drum Corps International (DCI), each drum and bugle corps is a marching ensemble of up to 150 musicians and color guard members. Though they resemble marching bands, drum corps differ in that the instrumentation is all brass and percussion, and the level of performance is generally much higher. The themes are more sophisticated, the music is more difficult and the choreography is astonishingly fast and complex. Each corps has its own unique style, making for an evening of wide variety that runs the gamut of emotions. Altogether, it is an experience not to be missed.

This year's event is on Monday, July 14 in Memorial Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m. Five groups will be in competition: last year's (and 11 time overall) World Champion Blue Devils from Concord, CA; former Champion and last year's fourth place finisher Phantom Regiment from Rockford, Il; Pioneer from Milwaukee, WI; Revolution from San Antonio, TX; and the perennial favorite Troopers from Casper, WY.
