Facilities in the Audiology section include two sound isolated suites dedicated for research purposes. These are in addition to the clinical suites which may also be used for research activities. Specialized equipment is maintained for a wide array of neurophysiological and psychoacoustic research. In addition, students in the Audiology section often work in the labs of professors in other departments on the campus. In addition to the facilities of the Audiology section, the Center also has diagnostic therapy suites and equipment, closed circuit television, a microcomputer lab for student use, a resource/library center, and a variety of laboratories dedicated to the investigation of speech and language disorders. Cooperating departments at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, including the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Psychology, and the Department of Veterinary Science, provide additional laboratory space and offer expanded research opportunities.
You will be encouraged to work with faculty members on their research projects as well as to pursue your own research under faculty supervision and guidance. In most classes in the Audiology section there is a research component within the course requirements.
As a student in the program you will enjoy the large modern classroom space of the Barkley Center. All seven of the classrooms are equipped for delivery of multimedia format lectures and have closed circuit television. All classrooms are accessible and capable of being enhanced by providing assistive listening technology. There are also several smaller seminar rooms where students and faculty may interact on a more personal level. In addition, the Gladys Ricketts Computer Classroom contains 24 Mac/PC workstations where students may interact with instructional materials and browse the Internet. The Center contains a large Resource Room that provides student access to books and journals as well as a place for planning. In addition, Au.D. and Ph.D. students have access to the teaching and research facilities at the Boys Town National Research Hospital as well as diverse practicum sites.
