David Evans is a doctoral candidate focusing his Ph.D. program in the area of fluency disorders under the direction of Dr. Charles Healey. His research interests include neuromotor correlates of stuttering and listener perceptions of stuttering and stuttering management techniques. David has a B.A. in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from the University of Colorado-Boulder and an M.A. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Maine. He worked in school, acute hospital, and residential settings in California before returning to school to pursue a Ph.D. His dissertation will (1) examine the extent to which autonomic, linguistic, and cognitive task loads affect the fluent speech in adults who stutter and (2) examine relations between acoustic indices of speech movement and performance on clinical measures.
When asked why he chose to attend UNL, he responded, “I was interested in working with internationally known researchers who also offer a quality mentoring experience. I was impressed by the quality of facilities available to all students within the department and it was evident that a supportive community exists among faculty, staff, and other doctoral students.”
