Professor Healey received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Kentucky and his Ph.D. from Purdue University. He has been a member of the faculty at UNL since 1977 and is an ASHA Fellow. He teaches graduate courses in fluency and voice disorders, the departmental undergraduate course in anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanisms, as well as a graduate course in research methods. In 1989, he received a University Distinguished Teaching Award and in 2007, he was selected as an Outstanding Alumni from the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Healey's research program focuses on the perceptual components which define fluency and stuttered speech in adults and children. He has published numerous articles and presented over 100 professional papers at state, regional, national, and international conferences. He also has co-edited three books and co-authored several book chapters concerning adults and children who stutter. Currently, he is an editorial consultant for the Journal of Fluency Disorders.
Dr. Healey is a specialist in the area of stuttering and voice disorders and has been involved in the assessment and treatment of people who stutter for over 30 years. He has presented a number of workshops on the clinical management of stuttering to school systems and state organizations around the country.
He is a Board Recognized Specialist in Fluency Disorders by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
