Summary of Procedures for the M.S. degree
Option I - Thesis
1. Acceptance to graduate study by the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders and Admission by the Office of Graduate Studies.
2. Registration (in consultation with the assigned Academic Advisor in Speech-Language Pathology).
3. Submission of the Memorandum of Courses form (Plan of Study) to the Office of Graduate Studies before or during the semester in which the student is enrolled for the 18th semester hour of graduate study. Upon acceptance of that plan by the Office of Graduate Studies, a student is formally admitted to candidacy.
4. Appointment of Thesis Supervisory Committee. (This committee will also be the committee for the oral defense of the thesis when it is completed.)
5. Application for Advanced Degree. Due in the Office of Graduate Studies during the semester of anticipated graduation.
6.Application for Advanced Degree. Due in Records Office during the semester of anticipated graduation. Check with advisor or Records Office for deadline.
7. Filing of Final Examination Report for the Masters Degree. Due FOUR WEEKS prior to the date of the oral exam during Fall/Spring semesters and THREE WEEKS during Summer Sessions. This form must indicate the date and time of the exam as well as the names of Graduate Faculty on the oral examining committee.
8. Removal of all incomplete grades. This must be done during the semester of anticipated graduation.
9. Submission of Masters Thesis for approval (form and style) to Graduate Studies TWO WEEKS prior to oral exam date.
10. Completion of Written Comprehensive Examination (if required).
11. Oral Examination over thesis.
12. Deposit of Masters Thesis in Love Library, payment of binding fee, and deposit of Final Examination Report form; distribution of thesis to Advisor, Thesis Supervisory Committee members, and Barkley Resource Center.
Option III - Non-thesis- Students are responsible for meeting all deadlines.

6. Filing of Final Examination Report during the last semester of enrollment.
7. Removal of incomplete grades.
8. Written or oral Comprehensive Examination (if required) (approximately 4 hours duration) during last semester of enrollment.
