*1.  Apply to Graduate Studies.

A minimum of 6 weeks before the start of the semester in which you want to begin

2.  Apply to SpEd Department.

A minimum of 6 weeks before the start of the semester in which you want to begin

*3.  Complete Memorandum of Courses (MOC).

Prior to completion of half the credits in your program.  (This is typically 18 credit hours.)

4.  Apply for student teaching.

* Jan. 30 for summer or fall student teaching

* Aug. 30 for spring student teaching

*5.  Apply for Advanced Degree.

At the beginning of the last semester before you graduate.  (See graduate studies website for exact dates.)

*6a.  Apply to take the written comprehensive exam (comps).

During the final semester of your program.  (Application is due 1 month before the test date.)

*6b.  If you wish to take comps at a location other than the university campus, you will also need to fill out the Proctor Authorization Form.

At the same time you apply to take comps.

*7.  Submit Final Examination Report for the Masters Degree.

Approximately 2 months before graduation.  (See graduate studies website for exact dates.)

8.  Apply for teacher certification.

As soon as all coursework needed for certification is complete.

See the Department of Education website for the state in which you are applying for certification.

*Indicates steps that are only required for students who are pursuing both a teaching endorsement and a masters degree.  Students who are seeking an endorsement only do not need to complete these steps.
