The UNL program meets the minimum requirements for a PreK-12 teaching endorsement in the area of Special Education - Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) from the Nebraska Department of Education. It is endorsed by the Council on Education of the Deaf as a comprehensive teacher preparation program at the elementary school level.

This program can lead to a Masters of Årts or Masters of Education degree. Our Calendar of Program Benchmarks provides an outline of the steps involved from beginning the application process to completing the degree and links to the forms needed for each step.

We prepare educators for preschool, elementary, middle and high school students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Our graduates work in residential schools and public schools; they serve as classroom teachers, itinerants and consultants. They work in programs that use “auditory/oral,” "total communication" and "bilingual" pedagogies.
