Student Teaching All graduate students in endorsement programs follow the same procedures and requirements for student teaching. Refer to Visual Impairments Student Teaching Handbook, obtain from Jill England
Proficiency in Braille The candidate must be able to read and write Braille to the extent that he/she can prepare materials for teaching VI students in his/her subject area and can read assignments written in Braille by students.  This level of proficiency can be obtained by completing Braille Codes and Material Adaptation for VI and the Nebraska Braille Proficiency Test. An application for taking the NBPT can be obtained from Susan Stokes.
Masters Degree Separate application processes are in place for Masters degrees. If the candidate for this endorsement is admitted to graduate study at the masters degree level in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders, an option for a masters degree will readily accommodate the endorsement requirements.  The Master of Education Degree, Option II, can include all the VI courses plus a research or statistics class and electives to total 36 credits. For the degree, the student must complete at least 18 hours of graduate work after being admitted to the Masters Degree Program by the Graduate College through the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders.  Courses required for the Endorsement may be used for the Masters Degree requirements but no course may be over six years old at the time of graduation.  A student does not need to be admitted to the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders for a masters degree before taking the first course for endorsement purposes.
