The UNL Botanical Garden and Arboretum is administered by Landscape Services in the Department of Facilities Management and Planning. The mission of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Landscape Services Department is to develop, manage and maintain the outdoor resources of UNL campuses; providing excellence in landscape design, grounds maintenance, surfaces, and amenities. All outdoor spaces and facilities are to be managed in a condition that is safe, attractive and fully functional. This mission also requires excellence in the provision of services assigned as responsibilities of this department.

The mission of this department is also to develop, manage and maintain the botanical resources of the campus, including the gardens, arboretum, and plant collections in a condition of high quality.

In response to the educational mission of the University of Nebraska, the Landscape Services Department provides educational programs and events, garden tours and interpretive materials focusing on the campus landscape and botanical gardens.
