Learning From The Past To Build For The Future

Executive Committee:

President:

The President presides over the Executive Committee and General Assembly meetings. She or he is responsible for directing the affairs of the organization and overseeing all of its activities. Other responsibilities include acting as a ceremonial representative of the BGSA, and assuming the roles and responsibilities of other committees if necessary.

Vice President:

The Vice-President assumes the duties of the President in his or her absence. Other responsibilities include serving as the committee chair, and executing all duties assigned by the President.

Treasurer:

The Treasurer maintains accurate and up-to-date financial records for the BGSA. She or he is responsible for authorizing financial disbursements, working with Student Activities and other organizations that provide funds in support of the BGSA, and aiding the Secretary in maintaining a membership roster.

Secretary:

The Secretary maintains the membership roster. She or he is responsible for recording the minutes of all meetings, and performing any other duties assigned by the President.

Projects and Programs Committee:

The responsibility for organizing all seminars, conferences and other special events sponsored by BGSA falls on the Projects and Programs Committee. This committee is responsible for developing and planning activities and events. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to contacting prospective speakers, developing the program for the event, and presenting the details of event to the general body.

Community Service Committee:

In the pursuit of academic degrees, it is very easy to become more focused on receiving than giving. It is the duty of the Community Service Committee to balance this situation. The committee is responsible for coordinating and facilitating community service activities for BGSA members.

Social Committee:

The Social Committee is responsible for nurturing the balance of academic and social activity necessary for the well being of graduate students. This committee plans social events on both small and large scales. Some activities in the past have included bowling, movies outings, and roller-skating.

Fundraising Committee:

The Fundraising Committee is responsible for strategically planning and overseeing the implementation of fundraising efforts. The committee chair and members will establish contacts with university-based and off campus funding sources.
