Natashia Swalve
I spent my undergraduate years at Winona State University in Winona, MN, receiving my B.A. in Psychology in 2008. During my time there, I worked in a neuropsychology lab, researching the anxiogenic and depressant effects of nicotine withdrawal on adolescent mice. I also studied the influence of ketamine anesthesia on anxiety and depression levels in mice. I would like to continue with nicotine research while integrating my interest in schizophrenia, such as exploring the high rate of nicotine use in schizophrenics. I would also like to begin research with antipsychotic drugs to learn more about the neurological mechanisms involved in schizophrenia. This could lead to a more complete picture of the disorder and also lead to more breakthroughs in neuropharmacology.
