THE BUROS INSTITUTE OF MENTAL MEASUREMENTS

For over 60 years the Buros Institute of Mental Measurements has worked to serve the public interest and advance the field of measurement. Founded in 1938 by Oscar K. Buros, the Institute is dedicated to monitoring the quality of commercially published tests. In addition to promoting appropriate test selection, use, and practice, the Buros Institute works to encourage improved test development and research through thoughtful, critical analysis of individual instruments and the promotion of an open dialogue regarding contemporary measurement issues.

The titles published by the Buros Institute are focused on providing consumers and other test users with accurate evaluations of the usefulness and effectiveness of commercially available tests. Related volumes concerning issues and topics within the field of assessment are also published as part of the Buros Institute catalog.

All volumes (with the exception of the Buros-Nebraska Series)
are distributed by the University of Nebraska Press

MENTAL MEASUREMENTS YEARBOOK SERIES

The cornerstone of the Buros Institute's publishing activities is the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) series. The MMY includes timely, consumer-oriented test reviews, providing evaluative information to promote and encourage informed test selection.

Typical MMY test entries include descriptive information, one or two professional reviews, and reviewer references. To be reviewed in the MMY a test must be commercially available, be published in the English language, and be new, revised, or widely used since it last appeared in the MMY series. Beginning in The Fourteenth Mental Measurements Yearbook, tests also must provide sufficient documentation supporting their technical quality to meet criteria for review.

Between the years 1988 and 1999, the Buros Institute produced a Supplement to the Ninth through Thirteenth Mental Measurements Yearbooks. Beginning with the Fourteenth Mental Measurements Yearbook, volumes in the MMY series are produced every two years. The Supplement series has been discontinued.
