Luella Gubrud Buros

Luella Gubrud Buros was born 10 September 1901 in Canby, MN.
She was the daughter of Anlaug (Ella) Ferguson and Luaritz (Lewis) M.
Gubrud. Her early life was spent in Canby, MN and Ambrose,
ND. She was educated at Columbia University, Teachers
College; Rutgers University; and Ohio State University. Luella
married Oscar Krisen Buros on 21 December 1925. They resided in
Superior, WI; New York City; Millburn, NJ; Kampala, Uganda;
Nairobi, Kenya; New Brunswick, NJ; New Hope, PA; and Tucson, AZ.
Oscar Buros died 19 March 1978.
She was a partner in the Gryphon Press, a book designer, and an
artist. Starting in 1938, together with her husband, Oscar, they
published the Mental Measurements Yearbook and Tests in
Print series. These books are now published by the Buros
Institute of Mental Measurements, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In
1994, Luella provided a substantial gift to create the Oscar and
Luella Buros Center for Testing, also located at the University of
Nebraska. Luella was a founding contributor to the newly published
Journal of Peace and Conflict. She was the 1995 recipient of
the Association for Assessment in Counseling's Exemplary Practices
Award.
She exhibited in State, National, and International exhibitions. She
is in the permanent collections of the Newark Museum, Montclair Art
Museums, and private collections. Many of her paintings are also
displayed at the Oscar and Luella Buros Center for Testing. She was
the recipient of numerous art awards and honors.
She was a woman of many interests: travel, African primitive art and
artifacts, Native American art, painting, watercolor, sculpture,
photography, conservation, and gardening.
