How to Search the Database

  • To browse a complete list of tests, click on Alphabetical Search. To browse a complete list sorted into 18 categories, click on Category Search. Otherwise, type in a keyword or two and choose which fields to search.
  • Exact words and phrases (e.g., "cognitive abilities") may be searched with quotation marks.
  • To search in an efficient manner, use distinctive words (e.g., Woodcock) rather than the entire test name.

Understanding the Rank Order of Search Results

Search results are ranked by the percentage of match between the Buros Institute database and your search words. The results are then displayed in alphabetical order.

"Stopwords"

  • The following words have been omitted from the Buros database index: a, an, and, by, for, from, in, of, on, or, the, to, and with. If you wish to include these words in your search, use quotation marks around the words or phrase.
  • You may enter words or phrases containing any stopwords. For example, Test of Written Expression will search for "Test," "Written," and "Expression" but will ignore the word "of." To conduct an exact word search, enclose the words or phrase in quotation marks.
