BECOME A CAREER SERVICES SPONSOR - The Husker Circle
Employer sponsors play an important role in building the services essential to the success of UNL students. Husker Circle recognizes employers that sponsor $1500 or more annually for Career Services’ programs at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. These generous gifts are used to support career fairs and programs, resources and equipment, and student staff. In addition, we are able to offer free subscription to Husker Hire Link for students and alumni. As a Husker Circle member, your organization enjoys increased visibility through:

  • An employer profile on the Career Services website
  • Display advertising in the 2007-2008 UNL Career Handbook
  • Acknowledgement in our main lobby on a plaque
  • Participation in special student programming events

If you would like to discuss becoming a Husker Circle member, please contact Kelli K. Smith, Assistant Director-Career Services at (402) 472-3145.

PARTICIPATE IN ON-CAMPUS RECRUITING
Each academic year, over 400 employers choose to recruit students through on-campus interviewing. As a centralized office, we serve all UNL colleges and provide pre-select or open sign-up interview schedules. Your presence on campus to interview for permanent, intern, or co-op positions demonstrates your commitment to hiring UNL students. To arrange an on-campus interview schedule, contact the On-Campus Recruiting Coordinator by e-mail or at (402) 472-8055.

OFFER INFORMATION SESSIONS
Employers participating in on-campus recruiting may wish to schedule an information session with students prior to their interviewing dates. The best sessions are well planned in advance by employers who make their own arrangements. "Meet the Employer" Information Sessions can be offered:

  • several weeks before campus interviews, to raise student awareness about your organization thereby increasing the number of resumes submitted for an interview.
  • the night before a recruiting date, allowing recruiters to present key information to students scheduled to interview the next day, and to other interested students.

We publicize information sessions on Husker Hire Link once you provide us with the final details. Should you desire more promotion, you can place an ad in the Daily Nebraskan. To schedule an information session, contact the On-Campus Recruiting Coordinator by e-mail or at (402) 472-8055.

ATTEND CAREER FAIRS
Career Fairs provide an opportunity for students to connect with your organization face to face and obtain information about opportunities in various career fields or industries. UNL Career Services offers a variety of Career Fairs to best suit student and employer needs. See the complete listing of upcoming fairs with more detailed information, or contact Christina Fielder, Assistant Director-Career Services at (402) 472-8029.

BE A SPEAKER OR PANELIST AT CAREER SERVICES PROGRAMS
Career Services offers a variety of programs and seminars for students throughout the year. Topics include career and major exploration, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, business dining etiquette, and much more. The support and point of view of employers can enhance these programs. For a complete listing of scheduled events and programs, see the Career Services Event Calendar. Career Services also welcomes new and creative ideas for programs. Contact Christina Fielder, Assistant Director-Career Services by e-mail or at (402) 472-8029 to share your ideas or become involved in a current program.

GET INVOLVED WITH A STUDENT GROUP
Connect and foster relationships with students directly. An excellent way to begin a corporate sponsor program is to partner with campus organizations. Campus organizations may want employers to provide information on their industry, organization, recruiting procedures. Career advice on resume writing, interviewing, and the job search may also be of interest. For student organizations, see the Involvement Guide. For information on UNL fraternities and sororities, see Greek Affairs.

Employers seeking to diversify their organization or wanting to meet and speak with UNL students of color regarding internships, co-ops, and full-time employment opportunities are encouraged to contact Dr. Kirkland, Assistant Director-Career Services by e-mail or at (402) 472-9315. He is able to provide the name and email address of appropriate organizational presidents.

Employers are encouraged to contact the Director of Career Services by e-mail or at (402) 472-3145 to explore ways to reach out to GLBT, international, or other student groups.

ESTABLISH A CO-OP/INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
You gain more than just another staff person by hiring an intern. Interns often stay in a position for several semesters and will graduate as an excellent candidate for full-time professional positions within your organization. Student interns will describe your organization to classmates when they return to campus which can enhance your campus profile and potentially increase your applicants for part-time, summer, intern, and full-time professional positions.

Let UNL Career Services help you develop an internship program at your site. Career Services offers advertising and resume referral, as well as on-campus interview services. For more information, contact Dr. Chris Timm, Associate Director-Career Services at (402) 472-8049.

PLACE AN ADVERTISEMENT IN THE DAILY NEBRASKAN (DN)

PARTICIPATE IN BIG RED WELCOME
Big Red Welcome is an annual program targeted for incoming freshman, but it attracts students of all ages and approximately 11,000 students attend. The program always occurs the Sunday before August classes begin, and recruiters are encouraged to either participate by reserving a table or serving as a sponsor of the event. Invitations are sent to potential participants in early July. If interested, contact Admissions at 402-472-4646.

A NOTE ABOUT EMPLOYER LITERATURE
Although we no longer display corporate binders due to low student interest and space limitations, we do display recruiting brochures. We do request that you please limit copies of literature. Literature should be sent well before your recruiting visit so that students will have time to read it, to select the employers with which they wish to interview, and to prepare for their interviews.
