The purpose of the Chancellor's Commission on the Status of Women is to enhance the status of women at UNL, by advising the Chancellor on issues pertaining to gender equity and on specific concerns of women faculty, staff and students at the University. The Commission consists of 25 members, divided into three Councils: the Council of Faculty, the Council of Staff and the Council of Students. Each Council is diverse and represents a broad range of women from across the University. It is the goal of the Commission to have a diverse membership that represents the population of women at UNL in terms of ethnicity and national origin, sexual orientation, race, religion, age, disability and other characteristics.
Each Council meets monthly to work on projects related to the needs of women and to develop recommendations for the Chancellor. They meet with the Chancellor each semester to establish mutual goals and to discuss progress toward those goals. Membership on the Commission requires a time commitment of approximately one hour per week, with occasional projects that require more time.
