Membership Information

The Commission consists of 25 members, divided into three Councils: the Council of Faculty, the Council of Staff, and the Council of Students. Each Council is diverse and represents a broad range of women from across the University.

The Council of Faculty consists of 9 persons, as follows:

  • 2 faculty members who represent different Colleges within the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources
  • 4 faculty members who represent different Colleges within Academic Affairs
  • The Director of the Women's Studies Program
  • A representative from the Academy of Distinguished Teachers
  • A representative from the University-wide Distinguished Professors or Cather/Bessey Professors

The Council of Staff consists of 8 persons, as follows:

  • 3 managerial/professional employees who represent different Divisions within the University
  • 4 office/service employees who represent different Divisions within the University
  • The Director of the Women's Center.

The Council of Students consists of 8 persons, as follows:

  • 5 undergraduate students who represent different colleges and different classes
  • 3 graduate students who represent different colleges and include one Masters and one PhD candidate
  • The Director of the Women's Center coordinates the Council.

Selection and Appointment Process

Appointments

Members of the Council of Faculty are appointed by the Chancellor, with the advice and consent of the Academic Senate Executive Committee and after consultation with the Council of Faculty. Members of the Council of Staff are appointed by the Chancellor after consultation with UNOPA and UAAD. Members of the Council of Students are appointed by the Chancellor with the advice and consent of ASUN and after consultation with the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

Terms

Faculty and Staff members of the Commission are appointed for staggered three-year terms. Student members are appointed for two-year terms. Members may request to be reappointed for one additional term Ordinarily, appointments will be made in April of each year. Terms shall begin on August 15, but members may serve until their successors are confirmed.

Chairs

Each Council selects one of its members to chair the respective Council. The Commission as a whole elects a chair from the members of the Council of Faculty and Council of Staff. A chair-elect may also be selected who will succeed the chair in the following year.
