Juan N. Franco has served UNL as vice chancellor for Student Affairs since July 2006. Prior to that, he was vice president for student services at Utah State University (USU) in Logan.
As vice chancellor for student affairs, Franco oversees Campus Recreation, Greek Affairs, Educational Access and TRIO Programs, Student Judicial Affairs, University Housing, Student Involvement, Service for Students with Disabilities, Nebraska Unions, the University Health Center, the Center for Civic Engagement and the Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services (OASIS).
Franco also serves as the interim executive director for Nebraska Campus Compact, an organization which links and supports Nebraska colleges and universities in promoting service-learning and civic engagement to prepare students for responsible citizenship.
At USU, in 2004, he was named USU Administrator of the Year by the University Statesman, and received the Faculty Service Award. Before going to Logan, Franco gained wide administrative experience in 28 years at New Mexico State University (NMSU) in Las Cruces, where he was a professor of counseling and educational psychology. At NMSU, he served as associate director of the Mental Health Research and Evaluation program, head of the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology, associate dean of the College of Education, associate vice president for academic affairs, vice president of administration and Regents' chief of staff.
Franco earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, and his doctorate in counseling and guidance at New Mexico State.
