Classics and Religious Studies professor Stephen Burnett has received the Humboldt Research Award from the Humboldt Foundation.

The award recognizes "a researcher's entire achievements to date to academics whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in the future." It will allow Burnett to do research on Martin Luther and prepare his book manuscript full time in Goettingen.

He was nominated for the award by Prof. Dr. Thomas Kaufmann with the University of Goettingen, Germany, whom Burnett will consult with on research. The foundation grants up to 100 awards annually.

Dean Joseph Francisco, College of Arts and Sciences, received the award once and described it as “highly coveted.”

More information about the award is available on the Humboldt Foundation's website.
