TRADITION

Nebraska Club Baseball has been a sanctioned member of the National Club Baseball Association for the past 4 seasons. During that time period, Nebraska has established itself as one of dominant programs in the Midwest. The Huskers had a very impressive 2003 campaign, highlighted by a 2nd place finish in the Central Plains Conference and individual All-American honors for 3 players. In 2004, the Huskers were again one of the top of the conference, but were unable to qualify for a regional birth or conference championship due to weather conflicts that forced them to miss 24 games. The 2005 season was the most successful in school history, as Nebraska proved itself to be one of the Top 10 schools in the nation. After leading the nation in wins during the regular season, the Huskers were one out away from reaching the World Series. That Husker team set program records for wins (29), winning streak (15), runs in a season (274), runs per game (7.4), and team batting average (.364). En route to finishing 28-5 in the regular season against NCBA competition, the Huskers dominated the Central Plains Conference going 14-1, which set records for most conference wins in a season (14), and best winning percentage in conference (.933). This season’s Nebraska team is set out to top last year’s remarkable season. This year’s team returns every pitcher on the staff who recorded an out last season, as well as 8 of the 9 every day starters and 12 hitters who had at last 25 at-bats last season, Nebraska will be loaded with experience, including three of the most prolific hitters in Nebraska history return (Lomax, Chambers, Ponec), each with career batting averages over .450, as well as the Huskers top 3 in all-time wins (Miller, W. Smith, Chambers) to the rotation.

As usual, a new season does mean new faces, and the Huskers loaded themselves with even more talent to add to the team’s depth. In addition to the inclusion of 2 more players who have played for Baseball America’s #4 team in the nation, and reigning Big 12 Champion Nebraska team, this Husker Club team has also picked up a few more athletes who have left smaller college programs to be a part of the Nebraska Club. Leading the way of new faces will be OF Joe McMahon and P Ryan Hines. McMahon is a 5’11 power hitter who will call the 3 hole his new home. Hines is a 6’4 lefty who is now the 2nd Husker pitcher that can touch 90. Look for this Husker squad to establish new Nebraska records, push at their 2nd consecutive Regional Birth, and reach the World Series for the first time in Conference History.
