History
The $14.9 million Campus Recreation Center was developed in a three-phase construction project which was funded through donations from the UNL Athletic Department and a fund raising campaign by the University of Nebraska Foundation. The first phase of the project, completed in November, 1987, was the Cook Pavilion, an indoor synthetic turf field.
The second phase, completed in the summer of 1989 and dedicated to the Lee and Helene Sapp family, renovated a portion of the Coliseum into racquetball and squash courts, and created a new building to house the Office of Campus Recreation, a weight training and conditioning room, a jogging/walking track, and four basketball/volleyball courts.
Phase III construction completed the renovation of the Coliseum, providing improved men's and women's locker rooms with saunas, a combative arts room, a fitness/aerobics room, additional basketball/volleyball courts, and offices and locker rooms for the women's intercollegiate volleyball and softball programs.
All areas are accessible to people with disabilities.
The UNL Campus Recreation on Center has received the "Outstanding Sports Facility" designation from the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association.
