Graduate Program - Instructional Communication
Instructional Communication focuses on the study of interaction in learning environments. In this emphasis, empirically oriented scholars are trained to investigate communication and its application to instructional situations. Instructional communication students typically take cognate hours in educational psychology and curriculum and instruction.

812 Directing ForensicsDesigned for students interested in teaching debate and speech activities at the secondary or collegiate level. Special emphasis placed on the relationship between theory in communication studies and practice in the debate and speech contest situation.
827 Instructional CommunicationAn advanced introductory course in instructional communication. The focus of the course is on: 1) understanding variables associated with the communication process in instructional settings and 2) managing instructional communication more effectively. The course provides an experimental and a cognitive understanding of the role of communication in the instructional process.
885 Small Group Communication TheoryThis course is designed to sketch out the conceptual territory of small group communication via a review of small group communication literature. The course will focus on small group communication as displayed in the family, friendship, and organizational networks. Students with little or no theoretical background in the small group communication area can develop an integrative picture of how small groups operate in various interpersonal settings.
927A Seminar in Instructional CommunicationAn examination of the literature and research pertaining to the basic psychological concepts, principles, and communication skills employed in effective instruction. The primary focus in the course in to examine communication as it applies to instruction by studying and applying theories of learning and communication to instructional contexts.
927B Seminar in Instructional Communication ResearchThis seminar is designed to review and analyze the seminal and current research related to communication in instructional contexts. The main focus of the course is to provide a foundation for developing theory and generating original research.
927D Current Issues in Instructional CommunicationAn investigation of current topics in instructional communication and speech communication education. Specific content depends on the semester the course is offered and the research interests of the instructor assigned.
