REQUIREMENTS FOR PLAN A & B MINORS IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES

Plan A Minor: This minor consists of a minimum of 18 credit hours in Communication Studies with at least 9 credit hours at or above the 300-level. The 18-hour requirement must include the following:

  • Communication Studies 200 or 201.

  • Communication Studies 109, 209, 212, or 311.

  • A minimum of 9 hours must be taken in Communication Studies classes at or above the 300-level excluding Communication Studies 311, 390 and 490.

  • Of the 9 hours, at least 3 must be at the 400-level. Communication Studies 200 or 201 must be completed before a student can enroll in any 400-level course. Communication Studies 490 cannot be used to meet this requirement.

  • The department encourages qualified students to enroll in internship and independent study courses in order to supplement classroom experiences. However, internship and independent study is not a substitute for classroom experiences. No more than 3 credit hours of internship or independent study may count toward the 18-hour minor requirement.

6. See Checklist for Communication Studies Minor on page 11 (or click on Checklist to view this page).

Plan B Minor: Twelve hours of Communication Studies courses with 9 hours at or above the 200-level excluding 390 or 490. A maximum of 3 hours of internship or independent study may apply to the 12-hour requirement.

Students are encouraged to develop a program of study tailored to their individual interests and needs. See Checklist for Communication Studies Minor on page 11 (or click on Checklist to view this page).
