
Campus-Wide Information System (CWIS) Account Information
Basic Account Info:
- Account name and password are CASE sensitive.
- Server Name: frontier.unl.edu
- Aliases: cwis.unl.edu, www.unl.edu
- IP #: 129.93.1.25
- Home Directory: /cwis/home/(account name)/html
- Site Name: http://www.unl.edu/(account name OR site name)
- Default Main page: index.htm, index.html or index.shtml
Notes for Making Your Pages Available on the Server:
- Dreamweaver, part of Studio 8, is
the suggested web development software as it includes an FTP agent for transferring
files
to/from the frontier server.
- OR -
You can use free applications. Filezilla for
the PC, Fetch for the MAC, or issue FTP commands from the command prompt
on your computer.
- After FTPing files to the server, clear the cache in your browser to make
sure you see the changes.
- The CWIS Team provides a script for using e-mail forms. Please see the
Instruction Sheet for
more information.
- If you write CGI scripts, we recommend you write them in Perl.
secure FTP for Frontier(www.unl.edu)
Information Services has tested the following (secure)FTP clients for the frontier
webserver.
WINDOWS:
MAC:
Dreamweaver MX 2004 or DreamWeaver 8
- From the menu, select Site->Manage Sites to create a new profile
or Edit Sites.
- Select the site name and press 'Edit'.
- Click the Advanced Tab.
- From the Category List, choose 'Local Info'.
- Enter the following information:
- Site Name: Your Choice->Recommend actual site name
- Local Root Folder: Press the folder to the right of the field.
Select the local directory where your keep your DreamWeaver site files.
- HTTP Address: Leave 'as is'.
- From the Category List, choose 'Remote Info'.
- Enter the following information in the fields:
- Access: FTP
- FTP Host Directory: cwis.unl.edu or frontier.unl.edu or
www.unl.edu
- Host Directory: /cwis/home/(account name)/html
- Login: account name
- Password: password
- Check the 'Use Passive FTP' box.
- Check the 'Use Secure FTP (SFTP)' box.
- Select 'OK'.
- Select 'Done'.
- The DreamWeaver 8 screenshot looks a little different than the DreamWeaver
2004 screen, but the basics are the same.

Windows-Filezilla
Download the Filezilla client from http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/.
Select setup.exe for the current release of Filezilla.
This
will take you to a mirror site. Select the mirror site closest to Nebraska. The executable can be saved
to your computer or executed from the site.
- From the menu, select File->Site Manager.
- Select New Site.
- Name new site.
- Enter info as detailed in the next for steps or view the picture.
- Host: frontier.unl.edu.
- Servertype: FTP over SSL.
- Logontype: Normal
- User: mysite
Press the 'Connect' button.

Filezilla Client.
From the Menu, select File Connect, Disconnect for sessions.
Local Site: Select the directory where your local files are stored.
You have two choices to move files to the server:
- Right click and select file(s) to move.
- Drag and Drop. You may also Shift/Click as in Windows to multiply select files.
To delete or download files from the server, Go to the Remote Site: window and
perform the choices listed above.
Be careful with double-clicking, as this moves the selected file(s) to/from
the server.
