Chapter Awards

Hugh Shields Award for Chapter Excellence

The Hugh Shields Award is the most prestigious award bestowed upon a Delt chapter. Named for Hugh Shields, Beta Alpha 1926, the first executive vice president of the Fraternity, the award is given annually to the top 10 out of 116 chapters of the Fraternity and is awarded with the purple and gold Hugh Shields Flag. The flag looks similar to the flag of Delta Tau Delta, but also has the greek word protimoi (pronounced pro-ti-moi) in the upper-left corner. The word means "first among equals." Chapters who earn the Hugh Shields Award do so because of their outstanding accomplishments in all areas of chapter programming and operations. Beta Tau currently holds the national record for earning the Hugh Shields award more times than any other chapter!
