Nancy Liu, MA

Nancy is primarily interested in improving services for persons with SMI and other underserved populations. Her research focuses on understanding the implementation and dissemination of evidence-based services in resource-poor settings.  Receiving a Fulbright to Beijing, she examined the prevalence of depression and suicide in rural China and identified suicide risk factors in Chinese persons with SMI.  Nancy was subsequently selected for the NIH/Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholars Program, where she worked in health policy at a Cochrane Center in Buenos Aires.  She currently assists with the World Health Organization’s revisions for the upcoming ICD-11 in order to approximate a scientifically valid and clinically useful classification for international use.  At UNL, Nancy has worked on a multi-site cognitive remediation trial involving attention shaping in treatment-refractory populations.  Her dissertation was supported by a data infrastructure grant from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to examine the implementation of the Supported Employment program.

Prior to UNL, Nancy graduated from Trinity University with a major in psychology and minors in philosophy, sociology and religion.  There, she studied rumination biases in memory and interpretation and factors impeding engagement in behavior therapy.

This year, Nancy is completing her internship at the clinical psychology training program at the University of California, San Francisco.
