Nancy Liu, MA

Nancy became interested in SMI through working with the homeless and low-income populations.  Witnessing the disproportionate rates of poverty among those with SMI, she concentrates her research on improving the neurocognitive functioning, health behaviors and employment programs of community-dwelling persons with SMI.  Receiving a Fulbright to Beijing, she examined suicide risk factors in SMI. She was subsequently selected for the NIH/Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholars Program, where she worked in health policy and the dissemination of evidence-based practices in Buenos Aires.  In the past, Nancy assisted with a multi-site attention shaping project to improve neurocognitive functioning in treatment-refractory inpatients with schizophrenia.  She is currently at the Department of Health and Human Services and has designed a project to examine vocational outcomes for a Supported Employment program directed at persons with SMI.

Prior to UNL, Nancy graduated from Trinity University with a major in psychology and minors in philosophy, sociology, and religion.  There she researched rumination biases in memory and factors impeding engagement in behavioral therapy and completed a clinical practicum at the inpatient unit of the state hospital.
