Jeffrey Nolting, MA

Jeff’s general research and clinical interests fall in the area of serious mental illness (SMI). In particular, he is interested in developing psychoeducational modules that address adherence to treatment and rehabilitation regimens for inpatient populations. In addition, Jeff is interested in enhancing ongoing interrater reliability of existing observational measures used by direct care staff used to inform treatment planning decisions and sequencing of psychoeducational treatment modules. It naturally follows that updated and in some instances new and novel direct care staff training is necessitated. Further research focuses on recent mental health reform initiatives that move seriously mentally ill persons into less restrictive community based settings at an increasingly rapid rate, who are being replaced by persons that have been adjudicated Not-Responsible-by-Reason-of-Insanity (NRRI). Thus, information is urgently needed on how the influx of NRRI persons in this rapidly changing therapeutic rehabilitation milieu affects both direct care staff and the persons committed to these facilities. Another of Jeff’s research interests is the role of autobiographical memory in mediating social cognition in schizophrenia.

After spending many years in Wall Street firms in the fixed income/derivatives area, attaining the level of executive director, Jeff returned to school to pursue his life’s ambition. He received his B. S. in psychology from the University of Utah in 2001, and subsequently attended Nova Southeastern University’s clinical psychology Ph.D. program, concentrating in neuropsychology, for one year. Prior to coming to UNL, Jeff was a Treatment Unit Manager at the Beatrice State Developmental Center in Beatrice, NE. In addition, Jeff volunteered his extra time at the Lincoln Regional Center’s Community Transition Program, where he performed objective psychological assessments.

For the past 2 years Jeff was a Senior Psychology Extern in the Lincoln Regional Center Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program where he represented psychology on interdisciplinary treatment teams.

Currently, Jeff is the Project Manager for the Decision Science in Rehabilitation (DSR) grant project.
