IS expanding list of blocked attachments in email effective Aug. 18 Effective Aug. 18, Information Services will be expanding the list of blocked attachments types from the initial set released in April. Information Services began to filter attachments with the following extensions on the Lotus Notes and Unlserve email servers: [ .bat .pif .scr .vbs .vb .cpl ] on April 27. With email attachments continuing to be a primary method for viruses being introduced to campus, Information Services will be expanding the number of attachment types we block on Aug. 18 to include: [ .ade, .adp, .bas, .bat, .chm, .cmd, .com, .cpl, .crt, .exe, .hlp, .hta, .ins, .inf, .isp, .js, .jse, .lnk, .mda, .mdb, .mde, .mdz, .msc, .msi, .msp, .mst, .pcd, .pif, .reg, .scr, .sct, .shs, .url, .vb, .vbe, .vbs, .wsc, .wsf, .wsh ] These types of attachments have been identified as being frequently used for viruses and rarely have legitimate reasons for being sent through email. Postponement notice on East Campus Steam Outage The steam outage that had been planned for the week of Aug. 15-21 is being postponed due to higher than anticipated activity during the scheduled week. The outage has been rescheduled for the week of May 15-21, 2005. If you have questions/concerns regarding research processes requiring steam or any other implications of the outage as now scheduled next spring, please contact the Utility Services construction coordinator, Charlie Griesen, at 472-8612 or cgriesen2@unl.edu. University Health Center closed the morning of Aug. 13 All services of the University Health Center will be closed the morning of Friday, Aug. 13, for an all-staff retreat. Off-campus access to Library resources The University Libraries subscribes to a number of databases that are licensed for use by the UNL community (faculty, staff and currently enrolled students of UNL). In order to access these restricted databases from an off-campus location, you must be authenticated. Beginning Aug. 2, a new proxy server was implemented that no longer requires authorized users to configure their Internet browser. If you previously configured your browser you will need to remove this information. Deadline for first Scarlet of academic year approaching The first Scarlet of the new academic year will publish Aug. 19. The deadline for submitting editorial information or advertising space reservations is noon Aug. 12. Classified ads may be purchased for $10 for 30 words, and display advertising is now just $10 per column inch for university affiliates.
