 1. Holiday Shutdown Building Temperatures

While the university community enjoys the holiday shutdown,
building temperatures will be reduced to levels similar to those
during the weekend. Between Saturday, Dec. 24, and Tuesday,
Jan. 3, building ventilation will be curtailed following the
Chancellor's directive last October and temperatures will be
reduced. Only those facilities exempted from the curtailment
will have normal to near-normal temperatures. So if you intend
to work during the holiday shutdown please dress appropriately.
Facilities personnel have been instructed not to respond to ad
hoc requests for temperature adjustments and accommodations.

 2. Credit Union Holiday Hours

The University of Nebraska Federal Credit Union will be closed
Monday, Dec. 26 for the Christmas holiday and Monday, Jan. 2 for
the New Year's holiday. Account access is available 24-hours a
day with free online banking, the automated telephone teller
system, or at one of 40 free ATMs. For more information about
any of these services call 472-2087.

 3. State Museum at Morrill Hall Open Over UNL Shutdown

The University of Nebraska State Museum (Morrill Hall) will be
open regular hours during the campus shutdown, Monday through
Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1:30 to 4:30
p.m. Closed only on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Admission
is free w/UNL faculty/staff/student ID. General admission is $8
family, $4 adult, $2 child. Located south of 14th & Vine. For

 4. Outstanding Staff and Silver Pen Awards

Nominate a UNL employee for the Floyd S. Oldt Outstanding Staff
or Silver Pen award to be presented at the University of
Nebraska Office Professional Association meeting Tuesday,

 5. Update your home address information online

University employees have the option of updating their home
address information online. The permanent address is used for
official university mailings such as form W-2 income tax
statements. Employee Self Service (ESS) provides benefit
eligible employees online access to their personal data stored
in SAP, the university's administrative computing system. Through
the ESS website employees can update their permanent and current
address and emergency contact information online. Employees can
also view their work address information. Employees need a user
ID/password to access their information. Contact Beth Benson at
bbenson2@unl.edu if you do not know your ID information or have

 6. Layman Request for Proposals - Change in Selection Criteria

The Office of Research recently released the call for proposals
for the Layman awards. In the call, there was reference to a
web-link in the "Selection Criteria" section that is no longer
active. The following criterion will be substituted: A clear
relationship to identified UNL strategic priorities of the unit
and college or to demonstrated areas of current UNL research
strengths. Priority also will be given to projects that are
consistent with current national funding priorities (e.g. NIH
roadmap, etc.). If you have questions, contact Peg Filliez at

 7. Nebraska Materials Research Sci. & Eng. Center Offers Seed Grants

Faculty with interests in materials and nanoscience are
encouraged to apply for seed grants for emerging research
related to the topic of the NSF-supported MRSEC: Quantum and
Spin Phenomena in Nanomagnetic Structures. Proposals are due

 8. UNL COR Program-Honors Undergrad program for Juniors

The UNL COR program is currently recruiting current sophomores
that are interested in American Indian mental health research
to apply. The application deadline is Feb. 15, 2006. This is a
federally funded program for students who meet all the

MLK Freedom Breakfast will be held on Friday, Jan. 13, at

"The Integration of Student Health and Student Affairs" will
be presented by Stephen C. Caulfield, MSW, chairman of The
Chickering Group from 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 5 in the Nebraska Union.

and mental health as it relates to experiential learning,
learning communities, interpersonal relations and behavioral
health.
